Spiritual Man is Mad

"...the prophet is a fool, the spiritual man is mad..." (Hosea 9:7).
If a prophet is anything, he is extra-terrestrial - above the Earth.
He walks the Earth with others, but he is not of the Earth. He is from beyond; he is from above. If we trace his history we will find that he may or may not have had a normal childhood. He may or may not have come through extraordinary experiences. But at some point in his life, either as a child, or as a young adult, or as an old man, something from another realm broke through the thin membrane between Heaven and Earth and took hold of him. It may have been a burning bush, or a Voice crying out to him from beyond the veil, or a Heavenly Vision which brought him briefly into contact with something and Someone that he could not completely fathom.
However it happened, for one moment at least, the clouds parted and the veil was rent, and he saw something that is unseeable; he heard something that is unhearable; Heaven itself was opened up to him, and he saw into another world. The thing he saw and heard now burdens him like a mantle that has been draped over his shoulders. He feels its weight, for it is with him day and night, whether he is eating or drinking, working or resting. It is the impression that everything around him is a lie, and what he has seen and heard is the Truth, and this Truth is not static, but it is living, growing, and increasing within him from the day it comes to him in the form of a seed.
Spiritual Man is Mad

"...the prophet is a fool, the spiritual man is mad..." (Hosea 9:7).
If a prophet is anything, he is extra-terrestrial - above the Earth.
He walks the Earth with others, but he is not of the Earth. He is from beyond; he is from above. If we trace his history we will find that he may or may not have had a normal childhood. He may or may not have come through extraordinary experiences. But at some point in his life, either as a child, or as a young adult, or as an old man, something from another realm broke through the thin membrane between Heaven and Earth and took hold of him. We cannot in this distracting world be pressed into His arms and ways of perfect love except by experiencing in some devastating way what seems cruel and wrong and “why should it happen to me” kind of thing. True dying with Jesus to our human selves can only be by some forms of suffering or humiliation which don’t seem fair or kind to us. Then we learn that accepting wrongs done us or unfair treatment is what roots us down and fixes us in daring to believe that everything that happens to me has been perfectly determined by my God of perfect love.
By this means I get my practice in “seeing through” to HIM ONLY in ALL things, even when I can’t at first see why. Then as I am fixed in a loving God in all my affairs and self, I can equally be fixed in seeing Him at His love-work in all people and things, including the one who has wronged me. And I am not afraid. I don’t have to go round and protect myself for the future. No. God has me in His hands and everything that touches me is meant by Him.

(The boy speaking to Aslan after a terrible ordeal where he was chased by a lion and his friend Aravis was wounded by the lion, said he had been unfortunate.) The conversation:
“I do not call you unfortunate,” said the Large Voice.
“Don’t you think it was bad luck to meet so many lions?” asked Shasta.
“There was only one lion,” said the Voice.
“What on earth do you mean? I’ve just told you there were at least two the first night, and –“
“There was only one, but he was swift of foot.”
“How do you know?”
“I was the lion.” And as Shasta gaped with open mouth and said nothing, the Voice continued. “I was the lion who forced you to join with Aravis. I was the cat who comforted you among the houses of the dead. I was the lion who drove the jackals from you while you slept. I was the lion who gave the horses the new strength of fear for the last mile so that you could reach King Lune in time. And I was the lion you do not remember who pushed the boat in which you lay, a child near death, so that it came to shore where a man sat, wakeful at midnight, to receive you.”
“Then it was you who wounded Aravis?”
“It was I.”
“But what for?”

There is no way but the “obedience of faith”. That does not mean a lot of things you have to “obey” and do. No indeed. But you have to believe. “The obedience of faith”.
How do you do that? Right in the midst of all those disturbed feelings, you affirm God’s word to be true, and you say it is true – that Christ dwells in you, and you and He are joined as one. You don’t feel it, it may appear nothing to you to say it; but saying it from your inner centre, is the obedience of faith which takes God at His word. You can say it – read Rom.10.17. Repeat it over and over again, if need be. Don’t fight your feelings and thoughts of that kind. Just replace them by turning your attention the other way and recognizing Him by faith.
What you believe, and that just means you accept and state it to be true of you, though you may feel nothing. It will, when the Spirit knows the right moment has come, settle into you with an inner awareness.

I think we are to see through the externals of people to their inner heart and always recognize that God is there speaking to them, even when they appear indifferent. If people prefer lies, as you say, we can know that deep inside they know they are guilty and that is the voice of God to them. In the parable of the Prodigal Son, I think the Father did not see the prodigal but the son. He was watching down the road for his return, expecting him; for He saw his wild ways as his distorted faith in believing the world could satisfy; but he knew he would be disillusioned. So I must learn to see all men as sons of God who don’t know it, and have their beliefs fixed on false values, and God will teach them by disillusion. This enables me to love them.
Jesus meant just that when He said, “Let them remain blind and deaf and not be converted”. He meant that first they must discover they are blind and deaf, before they see their need for eyes and ears!
So I think the great lesson God is teaching us is to see HIM in all things, whether they appear good or evil - just as Jesus did not see the devil crucifying him, but it was His Father’s cup. Then He could have peace and joy in the suffering and faith for the resurrection.

You see when I first grabbed by faith, together with my Pauline, that Gal.2:20 statement, what I had not then got clear is Who is the “I” which is crucified? Just as you say, I now know wrongfully I called my “flesh” sinful nature, which is BY NO MEANS the correct translation of the Greek “sarx”, but is inserted, in these subtle mistranslations such as the Living Bible.
“Flesh” is just me in my human capacities of soul and body. This is obviously so because Jesus was “God manifest in the flesh”, and Rom.8 makes it plain that calling it “sinful flesh” means that some virus was inserted into my normal human flesh. Thus Paul can go on to say “the life I now live in the flesh” is “by the faith of the Son of God” and thus not “sinful flesh”.

Just keep on the single path, darling, where there is nothing but God-in-love, whether appearances are evil or good. HE ONLY is in all of them. Here is the secret. Thru the Fall we got a divided outlook and see two powers, good & evil; but back in Christ, and in Christ Universal, we see ONLY ONE, even if He often seems to appear in devil’s guise! The only battle I have to fight is not against circumstances, or problems, or people or even devil, except the devil interfering with my inner outlook. If he can get me to see evil as evil, then I am controlled by the evil I am seeing and believing in. But if I replace all such negative beliefs in outer appearances by seeing GOD ONLY in all, then I have the faith that overcomes the world!

That is where we really live, right in the midst of outward darkness.

He that is joined to the Lord is one spirit. That is a mystery. One plus one equals one. How can that be? The divine and the human are one.
Until we know and live out of our union with Christ, we will nver fully manifest the life of God within us. Some of it will inevitably shine through now and then, despite us. But for the most part we will manifest our own merely human life.
Until we know union, we are constantly confronted by the illusion of separation. "God is up there; I am down here. How do I draw close to God? Give me a plan. Give me a program." Plenty of people are ready with the answers. "Read your Bible. Pray. Study. Witness. Tithe. Take communion. Here are the plans. Here are the programs."
But once you know your union with God, there's nothing left for you to do. Oh, you may still do some of the outer things. But you aren't doing them to get close to God. You and God are one. There is no more separation.
When you begin living out of your union with Jesus Christ, you move beyond Christ plus anything, no matter how good it might be. ...We live and move and have our being in God, who is our life. We are saved by His life. He is our life.
Christ lives out His life in us funny old you, funny old me. We have all kinds of different shapes, forms, and fashions, all kinds of interests, all kinds of diversity, all kinds of uniqueness. Praise the Lord. We don't have to look like, act like, talk like, or be like anybody else again. We are free to be ourselves. People see us, but we know it's Jesus living through us.

I think there is only one secret of victory in the Christian life, and that is the moment by moment walk with Jesus. There is no kind of recipe for an automatic life of victory. We are always assaulted by Satan, one way or another. But I find the key in simply recognizing the Presence of Jesus in my heart and life just at this moment. Seeing Him with a single eye, I have peace and joy. To do this, we must not allow the devil to disturb us with past memories. We must be thankful for all the Lord’s goodness in the past; and if Satan disturbs us or condemns us about the past, we must stand steadily in the fact of the cleansing blood by faith - that cleanses from all sin.
The same about the future. We must not fear the future, for that is in the hands of Jesus. We can anticipate the glorious day coming when we are with Him again, and with our loved ones, but not anticipate it to the point that we lose sight of the joy of the Presence of Jesus at this moment. So we find satisfaction just in the step by step walk with Him. See Him now, lean on His arm, reckon on His love, be satisfied with Him; and then we find that the Lord allows us our lonelinesses and tests just to drive us back onto Himself, and so we can thank Him even for the tests.
